Downpour of God's Love

05.28.24 | Michael's Corner | by Michael Ten Eyck

    Dear Church Family,

In recent days, our region has experienced some intense, drenching rains. The once-dry fields and gardens are becoming lush and ready to teem with new life. These rains have been a reminder of the beauty and necessity of water, transforming our surroundings. As I reflected on the impact of these rains while standing under my umbrella, I couldn't help but draw parallels to the overwhelming, refreshing love of God.

Just as the rain pours down from the heavens, God’s love showers upon us abundantly. Sometimes, like the parched ground, our hearts can feel dry and weary. We go through seasons where we are spiritually thirsty, longing for renewal and nourishment. In these moments, God’s love comes to us like a downpour, reviving our souls and replenishing our spirits.

The Bible is full of imagery that likens God’s love to water.

Isa 55:10-11 For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout,  giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. Just as the rains accomplish the purpose of nourishing the earth, God’s love and His word achieve the purpose of nurturing our hearts and lives.

Let the recent rains remind us that, no matter how dry and barren our lives may seem, God’s love is ever-present, ready to soak us in His grace and mercy. His love is not a mere sprinkle or a light mist; it is a powerful, overwhelming flood that saturates every aspect of our being. It brings new life, growth, and hope.

In times of trouble or spiritual drought, we must remember to open our hearts to the downpour of God’s love. Let it wash over you, cleanse you, and bring you the peace and joy that only He can provide. Just as the rain revitalizes the earth, God’s love has the power to transform our lives in profound ways.

Let us be thankful for the rain, both physical and spiritual. May we see it as a tangible reminder of God’s unending love and faithfulness. As we view the impact of the rain around us, transforming our surroundings, let us also seek to be transformed by His love, allowing it to flow through us and bring renewal to our hearts.

Moving forward, let’s carry this message of God’s love with us. Share it with others, just as the rain shares its life-giving water with the earth. Be a conduit of His love, and watch as it brings forth a harvest of hope and renewal in our community.

May God’s love drench your soul today and always.

    Loving you all,
    Michael
