Take It All In

04.20.21 | Elder's Corner | by Matt Saxe

    I always struggle with what to write about when it comes my turn to fill the "elders corner" page of the newsletter, and this time is no exception.  But I had some time this past weekend to just sit, relax, take in a couple ballgames, enjoy the sunshine, take a deep breath and look around at how the earth is changing, just like it does every spring...  and I realized a few things I want to share with you.

    We've had some much warmer temperatures lately and lots of beautiful sunny days.  The grass is growing and greening up, and flowers and trees are blooming!  But I kept having to put my sweatshirt back on when the sun would go behind the clouds yesterday, and then I would take it off again when the sun peeked out and warmed things up.  And as I write this, the forecast is calling for SNOW tomorrow! Just a small reminder of the cold dreary winter we thought we had left behind. However, even with the roller coaster temps and changing weather, spring is here and will lead to summer just like it does every year and has done since the beginning of time... just the way the Creator designed it.   Our heavenly Father is in control!  He has a perfect plan, and it will be accomplished even though sometimes it may not seem like things are going the way we think they should.

    The other thing I love about spring is the rebirth of nature.  What was brown, brittle, dry and dead is once again green, fresh, and alive!  For me its an annual reminder of Jesus' victory over death, how He is faithful to restore us each time we fall away from Him, and the blessing that each new day is another chance to serve Him and live in His will for our lives.

    The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;[a]
        his mercies never come to an end;
     they are new every morning;
        great is your faithfulness.
    -Lamentations 3:22-23

    I hope you get to be outdoors when the weather cooperates, and are able to be still, take it all in, and let it remind you of how much we are loved by the Creator of the universe.
