Search for the Gift

01.03.18 | Elder's Corner | by Larry Wigington

    Greetings to my church family!

I hope all is well with you all as I share some thoughts with you. As we have said farewell to 2017, let us all look forward to 2018 with even greater eagerness to our Lord! My grandson Tim received a birthday gift this year that required some reading, thinking, and searching on his part. He was given clues as to where to search for his special gift that was hidden. Each clue lead him to another location with another clue. And knowing Tim, he was not about to give up searching for his special gift! His persistence paid off with finally finding his gift!   His response, "This is so cool! I love it!!" But just think about it, if he hadn't applied himself to aggressively searching for his gift, he would not have received it. While watching Tim track down the clues for his gift, it reminded me of a passage of scripture.

Hebrews 12:1-3   (And yes, he was surrounded by a lot of witnesses)

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart."

As we enter into 2018, let's all focus on the race and prize before us with enthusiasm!! Let's build on our foundation of faith for the future of HIS church.

Loving you all, in His service,

    Larry Wigington, Elder
